LAWRENCE, Kan. -- The Missouri State cross country team competed in its first meet of the season Tuesday (Sept. 1) at the Bob Timmons Classic, hosted by Kansas University.
MSU was one of six schools competing in tonight's non-team scoring 5K on the same course that will be run during the NCAA Midwest Regional in November. Alongside MSU and KU were Kansas State, UMKC, Oral Roberts, and Emporia State. KU proved to be a powerhouse at their home course tonight, while MSU was able to keep up and hang towards the middle of the group of runners.
The Bear's top finisher, Jessica Allen, was 22nd in competition. Allen was the first Bear to finish at the MVC Championship last fall. Right behind her for the Bears was freshman Jade Raynor, who is one of seven freshmen who joined the squad this season. MSU also has four other returning letterwinners back in the fold with solid experience.
The Bears will have a little less than three weeks to prepare for their second meet of the season at the Missouri Southern Stampede in Joplin, Mo. on Saturday, Sept. 19 at 8:30 a.m.
