ST. LOUIS - Missouri State junior Joey Johnson has been named Missouri Valley Conference Men's Golfer of the Week, the league announced Wednesday.
Johnson tied for 14th overall in the Loyola (Md.) Golf Invitational sponsored by the Neville Kovacs Group this week. He fired a 3-over-par 219 at the 7,015-yard, par-72 Palm Valley Golf Club in Goodyear, Ariz.
Johnson opened with consecutive rounds of 74 before closing with a final-round 1-under-par 71.
An Ozark, Mo., native, Johnson's 71 on Tuesday matched his season-best score. Through six tournaments and 15 rounds this season, Johnson ranks seventh in the conference with a 74.3 scoring average.
The MVC weekly honor is the second of Johnson's career. He also claimed the award as a freshman Feb. 27, 2013.
As a team the Bears finished 14th overall in the event at 48-over 912.
Missouri State returns to action March 9-10 at the Grover Page Classic in Jackson, Tenn.
