SPRINGFIELD - Missouri State's director of track and field Ronald Boyce and head cross country coach Jordan Fife announced that Jahliah Clay and Jordyn Capra have signed their National Letters of Intent to continue their careers and attend Missouri State at the start of the 2016-17 school year.
Jahliah Clay | Blue Springs, Mo. | Blue Springs South High School
Clay is projected to be a sprinter for Boyce when she starts her collegiate career. A two-time state champion, Clay's specialty is the 100-meter and 200-meter dash. Last season, she was the conference, district, sectional, and state champion in the 100-meter dash finishing at state with a time of 12.27 seconds.
In the 200-meter dash, Clay was crowned champion at conference, sectionals, and state finishing at state with a time of 24.38 seconds. Her all-time bests in the 100 and 200-meter dash came at the sectional meet last season as she clocked in at 12.01 and 24.29, respectively.
"I'm excited about Jahliah's decision to join the Bears in 2016," said Boyce. "She is a two-time Missouri state champion who should add tremendous quality and depth to our sprint squad. Jahliah should positively impact our team with her outstanding talent and attitude."
Jordyn Capra | Carl Junction, Mo. | Carl Junction High School
Capra will join the cross country team in the fall and compete with the track and field team in the spring. She helped her team capture cross country conference titles for three consecutive seasons while assisting her track team grab the conference title her freshman year. Capra holds the Carl Junction school record in the 3200-meter run after finishing with a time of 11:31.84 her junior year. A four-time, first-team All-Conference honoree, Capra finished her senior cross country season with a personal-best time of 19:20.13.
"I'm excited to add Jordyn to our distance group for next season," commented Fife. "She is an athlete who knows how to push herself to the limit and she's willing to put in the work that it takes to be successful at this level. I'm confident that she has tremendous room for improvement based on her limited training at the high school level. She will give us some much needed depth going into next year."
The Bears will open up the indoor track and field season at the beginning of December at the Bob Timmons Classic in Lawrence, Kan.
