FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - The Missouri State women's cross country team competed in its third meet of the season Saturday, finishing 14th among Division I schools at the 27th Annual Chile Pepper Festival.
Senior Cindy Forde had an impressive finish for the Bears, leading the pack for the second meet in a row with a time of 17:42.46. Forde's time broke her personal best of 18:18.95 that she recorded two weeks ago at the Missouri Southern Stampede. Teammates Savannah Beaver (18:45.23), Kaitlyn Cravens (19:06.28), and Alyson Jones (19:31.60) joined Forde, and picked up their own personal bests.
Head coach Jordan Fife expected the meet to be fast. The top performer of the race was Arkansas' Dominique Scott, who finished with a time of 16:07.18.
"We had great performances from a couple individuals but as a team, I think we missed a big opportunity to take another step forward," said Fife. "Cindy Forde has been full of confidence this whole season and she's making sure her senior season is a memorable one. Her performance today is yet another example of her trusting the training and going out and making something happen."
Rounding out the rest of the Bears' competitors in today's race were Jade Raynor (18:47.69), Renae Buschling (19:52.72), Tenaly Smith (19:55.02), Megan Nickles (20:13.42), and Shani Adams (20:18.99) in a field of 436 runners.
Fife has high expectations for MSU's final race of the season.
"I am looking forward to our next meet at Little Rock, where there won't be a massive crowd of runners and we can work on some specific racing strategies a little more," Fife said.
The Bears will compete in their final regular season meet at the UALR Invitational on Saturday, Oct. 17 at 10:00 a.m. MSU then heads to the MVC Cross Country Championship on Saturday, Oct. 31 at 11:30 a.m. in Evansville, Ind.
