MVC Release
ST. LOUIS, Mo. - Missouri State senior Tenaly Smith has been named to the State Farm Missouri Valley Conference Good Neighbor Award list for the 2015 fall season, the league announced on Thursday (Oct. 29). The award is to honor the achievements of exceptional student-athletes.
Smith has raced in all four cross country meets for the Bears this season. The Idaho-native ended her 2015 regular-season campaign with a personal best 5-kilometer time of 19:15.7 that she recorded at the Little Rock Invitational. Smith will compete at the MVC cross country championship this weekend in Evansville, Ind.
In the classroom, Smith holds a 3.64 cumulative grade point average as a general business major at MSU. Smith has been named to the Dean's List five times and has been on the Missouri State Athletic Director's Honor Roll each of the last six semesters. In 2013, Smith earned the MVC Commissioner's Academic Excellence Award.
Among her many community service events, she has been a volunteer at Meals-A-Million, the Boy & Girls Club, and the Halloween Fun Run. While attending Missouri State, Smith has been a member of SAAC, served on the traditions council, and has been a member of Student Government Association.
In order to be eligible for the award, the student-athlete must be in good academic standing, must demonstrate good citizenship through good sportsmanship and significant community service, and must participate in a sport, during the season of recognition. The Valley will recognize 10 student-athletes three times annually (fall, winter, spring), for a total of 30 honorees. Institutions select their State Farm MVC Good Neighbor Award honorees.
