TULSA - The Missouri State women's golf team returns to action at the ORU Shootout at Meadowbrook Country Club on Monday and Tuesday.
The 10-team tournament, beginning at 8:30 a.m., both days, will be the Bears' first competitive play since the season-opening Chip-N Club Invitational at Nebraska on Sept. 8-9, where Missouri State finished sixth.
Joining MSU at the 54-hole event hosted by Oral Roberts this week is Arkansas State, Eastern Kentucky, McLennan Community College, McNeese State, Northern Iowa, Sam Houston State, Stephen F. Austin and Texas A&M Corpus Christi.
The Bears will send out a lineup of senior Estefania Acosta, freshman Stine Pettersen, junior Megan Furnish, senior Megan Thompson and freshman Verena Gimmy.
"Meadowbrook is an older course, tight with lots of big trees. It reminds me of Twin Oaks here in town," said MSU head coach Kevin Kane of the 6,120-yard, par-71 layout. "It's a good field, but one I expect us to be competitive in. After being off for two weeks, we're chomping at the bit and ready to get going again."
The Bears were led to a sixth-place finish in last season's ORU Shootout by Chiara Citterio, who tied for 12th individually with a three-round score of 227, which included first- and final-round scores of 75 and 72, respectively. Thompson was 20th last year with a 229.
Acosta and Pettersen were Missouri State's top finishers at Nebraska, each shooting 12-over par to tie for 16th overall with 228. Pettersen was the only MSU golfer to shoot even par in Lincoln with a 72 in the second round.
Thompson will make her first appearance this season for the Bears at ORU in the No.-4 spot. She improved her scoring average by nearly a stroke from her sophomore season last year to lead the team with a 77.6 mark as a junior, which was 11th in the Missouri Valley Conference.
Gimmy is slated to make her collegiate debut as MSU's fifth golfer, as well. A native of Neuss, Germany, she won the 2013 Faldo Series in Berlin, and was also 16th in the 2012 Under-18 German National Championship.
