Sept. 20, 2014 Final Stats
Head Coach Terry Allen
Opening statement
"We tried to beat ourselves in the first half with all the penalties that we had and all the special-teams mess ups we had, but, as it turns out, the special teams came through for us. And we played very well offensively and didn't turn the ball over, and they had not turned the ball over coming into this game. Alexz Jones came up on a hit and [Andrew] Beisel got it and [Caleb] Schaffitzel comes up with an interception and Eric Phillips gets a pick. Then, Kierra [Harris] shows an awful lot of character coming back after getting a hip pointer. Julian Burton was sensational, and I though coach [Rob] Christophel called a heck of a game."
On the poise of the team during the last drive ...
"We do it every week and that's all we said to them down there, `hey, we do this every week in practice.' We did it a bunch in preseason and it's always a scenario such as that where we had to kick field goals. And we got the penalty and I was afraid that it might be out of Bo's range, but he made up for that missed extra point. What a heck of a finish."
On Bonani ...
"He missed the extra point and he kicked the long field goal. That's just an incredibly good feeling. I'm extremely excited for him. ... We said it was going to be a heck of a football game and we're fortunate we got the victory."
Senior Wide Receiver Julian Burton
How do you feel?
"This is definitely a win I'll never forget. They got us last year when we dropped a touchdown to win the game. So, it was definitely a big game for us. We're 3-1 going into conference play and we get a bye week to get our rest before a win against Youngstown."
On the poise of Harris ...
"We're only as good as our quarterback. Kierra made it through all the controversy, all the tribulation, everything. He made it through this game, got a lot of hits, a lot of big hits that he shouldn't have taken and we just wanted to make sure to capitalize on that."
On his career high in yards and receptions ...
"It's definitely icing ion the cake. It's a lot hard work and dedication. I just want to thank God that I'm healthy and out here able to do that."
On bouncing back from injury last week to have a career game ...
"It's just a lot of hard work. I wanted to comeback strong, I wanted to comeback with a point. I just want to help lead this team to get to the playoffs."
On being 3-1 going into the bye week ...
"We're going to capitalize on the film that we get, we're going to make sure we stay disciplined and correct our mistakes."
Senior Quarterback Kierra Harris
How big is this road victory heading into conference play?
"Very big. UCA is a great opponent. ... To be going into conference at 3-1, that's a big deal. It's a great feeling for us and these people who came out to support us and for the school."
Junior Place-Kicker Marcelo Bonani
On the game-winning kick ...
"It was just like the 49-yarder like last week. I got a little under it, but I saw the trajectory. When I saw it, I thought it went in, but I just had to make sure the refs put their hands up."
How did feel when the refs signaled?
"You can't describe that feeling. It's a rush of adrenaline and happiness and it was just great."
When the last drive started, were you hoping for your chance?
"We've been practicing some long field goals, so I knew I had the leg, it was just a matter of executing this week."
