SPRINGFIELD - The 2014-15 Missouri State women's golf schedule features eight regular-season tournaments and the MSU Payne Stewart Memorial, head coach Kevin Kane announced on Wednesday.

The Bears will be returning to seven tournaments from last season, including four in the spring.

"We didn't lose anyone from last year and have two new faces, so I think the possibilities for this team are outstanding," Kane said. "Last year was not typical of what we're accustomed to in this program and we're eager to put that behind us and get back to the level of play we're used to. I think the competition within the team is going to be unprecedented - some really strong battles for playing time - and I don't think that's ever a bad thing. I'm excited about the year because we have the deepest team I think we've ever had."

Missouri State opens the season Sept. 8-9 at Nebraska's Chip-N-Club Invitational at Wilderness Ridge Golf Course in Lincoln, Neb. The Bears posted their second-best team finish of 2013-14, placing fifth overall at the tournament a season ago.

MSU heads to the ORU Shootout at MeadowBrook Country Club in Tulsa, Okla., Sept. 29-30, where it placed sixth last year when then-junior Chiara Citterio posted her best finish of the season with a tie of 12th to lead the Bears.

Missouri State comes home to host the 15th-annual Payne Stewart Memorial on Oct. 13-14. The 54-hole event will be held at Rivercut Golf Course, a 6,081-yard par-72 track in Springfield. The Bears finished fourth in their only home tournament last season.

MSU will close the fall Oct. 20-21 at the Blue Raider Invitational hosted by Middle Tennessee State at Old Fort Golf Club in Murfreesboro, Tenn.

The spring season begins at the Jim West Challenge in Boerne, Texas, on Feb. 15-16 - a tournament hosted by Texas State at Tapatio Springs Golf Resort. Rising junior Estefania Acosta paced the Bears individually, firing a pair of 79s en route to a tie for 41st place there last season.

Missouri State then heads to Rio Verde, Ariz., for the Rio Verde Invitational, hosted by Western Michigan from March 13-15. Ariel Tidwell tied for 16th to lead the Bears at the event last year, shooting three rounds in the 70s, including a season-low 72 in the final round.

The UALR Classic at Diamante Country Club in Hot Springs, Ark., is slated for March 23-24. The Bears finished in a tie for 12th place at Diamante last year.

Missouri State takes part in the UMKC Invitational in Kansas City, Mo., on April 6-7 at Shoal Creek Golf Club. Tidwell had her best finish of the season last year in the event, tying for seventh with two rounds in the 70s to help the Bears finish seventh as a team.

Missouri State will be shooting for its first MVC championship since 2001 at the conference tournament set for April 19-21 in Burlington, Iowa. The Bears finished sixth with a combined 916 last April.
