LAWRENCE, Kan. - The Missouri State cross country team competed in the annual Rim Rock Classic on Saturday morning. The Bears placed ninth in the 12-school field with a total time of 2:03:23.80 for the 6k distance.C
"We finally had some nice cool cross country weather today although it was quite windy," said head coach Jordan Fife. "The KU course is very challenging and it was our entire team's first race at the 6k distance. We took the opportunity to work on some team racing tactics and with the exception of Jessi, we tried to keep our 2-7 runners together for as long as possible so they could help each other out."
Freshman Jessica Allen paced the Bears for the third consecutive week. Allen finished 31st overall in the 106 competitor field with her time of 23:15.3. Missouri State also finished two racers in the top-70 with Oliviah Sloan (24:50.2) and Cindy Forde (24:59.6).
The remaining Bears placed consecutively 80th, 81st, and 82nd, with Kaitlyn Cravens (25:17.7), Tenaly Smith (25:21.7), and Savannah Beaver (25:24.0).
"The big takeaway that we were all encouraged by was that nearly everyone was able to run a season PR for 5k en route to the 6k race distance," added Fife.
Missouri State will next compete in the UALR Invitational on Oct. 18th in Little Rock, Ark.
