MVC Preseason Poll
St. LOUIS -- The Missouri State Lady Bears of second-year head coach Kellie Harper have been voted to finish sixth in the 2014-15 Missouri Valley Conference women's basketball race by the league's head coaches, media representatives and sports information directors, it was announced Tuesday (Oct. 28) at MVC Media Day in St. Louis.
Defending co-champion Wichita State is the preseason favorite with 395 points and 36 first-place votes, while UNI and Drake split the remaining four first-place votes, with the Panthers earning 348 points for second place and DU picking up 315 points for third.
Evansville finished fourth in the polling with 252 points, followed by Indiana State (234), Missouri State (190), Loyola (166), Illinois State (125), Southern Illinois (116) and Bradley (60).
Wichita State's Alex Harden is the Preseason MVC Player of the Year and is joined on the all-conference team by Kyndal Clark and Lizzy Wendell of Drake, Evansville's Sara Dickey, UNI's Jen Keitel, and Dyana Pierre of Southern Illinois.
The Lady Bears showed glimpses of a bright future during Harper's first season in 2013-14, with an 11-4 record in a stretch from Dec. 15 to Feb. 7 that included a victory over Missouri. Among MSU's seven returning letterwinners this season are all-conference guards Kenzie Williams and Tyonna Snow, while MSU's 2014-15 freshman class includes five all-state high school performers.
The Lady Bears begin exhibition play Nov. 4 at 7:05 p.m. with Central Methodist and tip off the regular season Nov. 14 at Memphis.
