Snowman Getaway - Day 1 Results
GOODYEAR, Ariz. - Just three weeks after kicking off its spring schedule in Houston, Texas, the Missouri State men's golf team is back on the links at the Snowman Getaway in Goodyear, Ariz. On Monday (Feb. 25), the Bears opened the 54-hole event with a 298-296--594, which put them in 10th place heading into the final day of action at the Palm Valley Golf Club.
Leading the way for Missouri State during the first two rounds was senior
Daily Young (t-25th), who carded a 72-73--145. Just one stroke behind the veteran Young is freshman standout
Joey Johnson (t-28th) with a 74-72--146. Johnson's 72 in the afternoon tied for the lowest round of the day.
Joining Young and Johnson in the middle of the pack was redshirt junior
Eric Straub (t-32nd), who finished Monday with a 73-73--147.
At the top of the leaderboard after the first day of competition was Michael Anderson of Washington State, who holds a 3-stroke lead. After shooting a 1-under-71 to begin the Snowman Getaway, Anderson posted an impressive 7-under-65 in the second round to jump ahead of the 88-man field.
Rounding out the Missouri State golfers were freshman
Mitch Mather (78-78--156) in a tie for 67th and freshman
Brik Brauburger (78-80--158) in 78th.
No. 26 Missouri carded a 280-285--565, seven strokes ahead of second-place Gonzaga (572). Also in contention for the top team honors is Utah Valley and host Washington State in third (573), and Air Force in fifth at 581.
Tuesday's final round is scheduled for a 9 a.m. CST shotgun start.
