The Missouri State men's golf team is tied for fifth place after one round of the Argent Financial Classic in Choudrant, La. The Bears shot 299 on Sunday (Mar. 11) to open the tournament at the Tom Fazio-designed Squire Creek Country Club.
Host Louisiana Tech heads the nine-team field after one day with an even-par 288 team total, with LSU and Middle Tennessee State tied for second at 292. Arkansas-Little Rock is fourth at 297, while the Bears and Southern Mississippi are tied with 299. UTSA is seventh at 301, followed by Jacksonville State at 303 and Rice with 310.
Senior Jordan McLaurin was low for MSU with a 72 and is tied for ninth. Junior Daily Young is tied for 16th after carding 73, with Eric Straub next for the Bears with 76 and in 33rd place. Sophomore Nick Langley recorded a 78 and senior Will Hogan shot 83. LSU's Smylie Kaufman fired a seven-under-par 65 to take the first-round lead.
Monday's second round is scheduled to begin with tee times at 8 a.m.
