Missouri State senior Jordan McLaurin tied for fourth Tuesday (Feb. 21) at the Rice Intercollegiate as the Bears' men's golf team opened its 2012 spring season. McLaurin fashioned a three-under-par 213 in 54 holes at the Westwood Golf Club in Houston, Texas, stringing together rounds of 70-73-70.
As a team, MSU tied for 11th in the 15-team field with 294-304-293--891. Northwestern claimed a four-stroke win, shooting 862 compared to Houston's 866. Florida Gulf Coast was third with 872, followed by Wichita State (874), UTSA (875), Louisiana Tech (876), Louisiana-Monroe (879), Texas State (884), Kansas State (885), New Mexico State (887), the Bears and Winthrop (891), Houston Baptist (897), Air Force (900) and Rice (907).
Zachery Fullerton of New Mexico State rallied to win medalist honors, firing 68-74-68--210, three shots ahead of McLaurin. Daily Young was second for the Bears and 24th overall with 71-79-71--221, while Will Hogan carded 76-77-74--227 to tie for 54th. Nick Langley tied for 65th with 75-77-78--230 and Eric Straub shot 83-81-78--242 to place 80th.
Missouri State is back in action next Monday and Tuesday (Feb. 27-28) at the Washington State/Snowman Getaway in Goodyear, Ariz.
