Ten Missouri State field hockey players earned Mid-American Conference academic honors, the league announced Friday. Casey Bayliss and Reiann Stoute were named to the 2011 Academic All-MAC squad. Eight other Bears received honorable mention nods for their efforts on and off the field.
Bayliss, a print and internet journalism major, managed a 3.51 GPA while also excelling on the field. The Bathurst, NSW, Australia native was named to the First-Team All-MAC squad and earned Player of the Week honors on two separate occasions (9/20/2011, 8/31/2011). After starting all of the 16 games she appeared in, Bayliss finished the season with 15 goals and six assists.
Stoute excelled both in the classroom and on the field for the Bears, achieving a 3.59 GPA as an accounting major, while also being the Bears `defensive leader. Stoute earned All-MAC Second Team honors and was named Defensive Player of the Week on Oct. 11. She ranked third in the nation in defensive saves (10) during the season.
Andrea Bain, Kelsey Lomax, Ramie Masters, Chelsey Medlock, Katie Mulloy, Catrina Schmidt, Lori Sinclair, and Laura Tavares earned Academic All-MAC Honorable Mention honors.
Bain, an undeclared major, served as the Bears' primary keeper this past season, achieving a 3.43 cumulative GPA. She also received Defensive Player of the Week honors on Nov. 1. She finished the season with 82 saves in 14 games and her first career shutout.
Lomax achieved a 3.50 cumulative GPA as a dietetics major. She finished the season with one defensive save and two shots, both of which were on goal.
Masters had the Bears' highest cumulative GPA with a 3.82 as a speech-language pathology major. She appeared in 15 games for the Bears, registering three shots, two of which were on goal.
Medlock played in every game this season at Missouri State. While achieving a 3.54 cumulative GPA as an accounting major, she also excelled on the field. Medlock finished the season with two assists and two defensive saves.
Mulloy served as the Bears secondary keeper this past season, while racking up 43 saves in the 11 games she appeared. A print and internet journalism major, she obtained a 3.41 cumulative GPA.
Schmidt, a biology major, had the Bears' second highest cumulative GPA (3.76) on the team. While starting all 19 games for the Bears this season, she finished the season with two assists and a .667 shot on goal percentage.
Sinclair obtained a cumulative 3.47 GPA, while racking up one assist and four shots, all of which were on goal, this past season for the Bears.
Tavares, an entrepreneurship major, started every one of the Bears' 19 games this past season. She finished the season with one goal, two assists, and one defensive save, while obtaining a 3.50 cumulative GPA.
Student-athletes must hold a minimum 3.20 cumulative GPA and have participated in at least 50% of the matches for the season in order to qualify for the Academic All-MAC squad. First-year students and junior college transfers in their first year of residence are not eligible for the award.
