CLEVELAND – After the conclusion of head coach
Catherine Ostoich's first season with the Bears, the Missouri State field hockey team landed 11 student-athletes on the Field Hockey Academic All-Mid-American Conference team, announced by the league Tuesday, Dec. 6.

Missouri State and Central Michigan led the conference with 11 honorees, followed by Ohio (9), Kent State (8), Longwood (8), Ball State (7) and Miami (7).

Daelynn De Mello is a first-time Academic All-MAC honoree who started all 16 games on the pitch this past season. She recorded two goals on the season, one against UC Davis and the other against future MAC member Appalachian State. The interior design major maintains a 3.23 GPA

Earning her second Academic All-MAC selection, senior goalkeeper
Megan Drew saw action in 10 games this season while making seven starts in the cage. A member of the Bears' all-time career saves list, Drew recorded 61 saves on the season, rounding out her final year on the pitch with a .744 save percentage. A psychology major, Drew maintains a 3.91 GPA.

Sophomore
Feli Heinzel earned her first Academic All-MAC selection after making 11 appearances during the 2016 season. The goalkeeper from Seeheim-Jugenheim, Germany, put in 599 minutes in the cage while making nine starts on the season. She recorded a season-high 10 saves against UC Davis while finishing the season with 51 saves and a .689 save percentage. Heinzel, an entertainment management major, carries a 3.86 GPA.

Bianca Mills, a junior from Huntington Beach, Calif., earned her first Academic All-MAC honors after starting in all 16 games this past season. Mills was one of the Bears' three leading scorers, finding the back of the cage four times this season. She was second on the squad with 12 points while racking up four assists on the pitch. Mills recorded two goals against LIU Brooklyn, in which one was the game-winner for the Bears. Mills carries a 3.33 GPA in marketing management.

A solid, defensive force for the back line, junior
Paige Pashea saw action in 12 games during the 2016 season. The Edwardsville, Ill., native totaled 415 minutes on the pitch and made a huge defensive save against Virginia Commonwealth on Oct. 30. Pashea made several key defensive stops throughout the year, helping the Bears limit their opponent's shots. A political science major, Pashea carries a team-leading 3.92 GPA.

Brynne Satre, a four-time Academic All-MAC team honoree, started all 16 games this past season. In her senior season, she recorded three assists while tallying three points. The leader of the defensive line, Satre earned three defensive saves to assist Missouri State against Ohio, Kent State and Longwood. The San Diego native put in an astounding 1045 minutes this past season, averaging 65.31 minutes per game. Satre maintains a 3.55 GPA while majoring in recreation sport and park administration.

As a sophomore,
Alexa Simpson gained playing experience in 13 games of the 2016 season. Simpson recorded only one card on the season and recorded a season-high 30 minutes against Virginia Commonwealth on Oct. 30. Simpson maintains a 3.31 GPA while majoring in exercise and movement science.

A member of the Academic All-MAC team last season, Soler Codina had the strongest offensive season for the Bears, leading the team with 13 points. Soler Codina racked up four goals, which tied with
Bianca Mills and Young, and also led the team with five assists. She started all 16 matches and recorded 29 shots while taking 15 shots on goal. Soler Codina recorded four points in the Bears' victory against LIU Brooklyn on Sep. 22, tallying one goal and two assists in the match. An administrative management major, Soler Codina carries a 3.74 GPA.

A crucial member of the Bears' back line,
Emily Tran was a solid defensive force for the team all season. The sophomore from San Diego racked up a total of 894 minutes on the season, while making 14 starts. She recorded key defensive stops on several occasions, preventing numerous goals throughout the season. The exercise and movement science major maintains a 3.65 GPA.

In her first season with the Bears, transfer
Anna Walmsley saw action in 14 games this season while making four starts. The Scottish mid-fielder saw 390 minutes on the pitch, putting in a season-high 44 minutes against Ball State on Oct. 21. The sophomore exercise and movement science major carries a 3.52 GPA.

Senior
Liz Young earned her second Academic All-MAC honor after starting all 16 games of the 2016 season. Young finished the season tied with two other Bears with a team-leading four goals. The San Diego native took 29 shots on the year including 13 shots on goal, tallying a .130 shooting percentage. Against Central Michigan, Young recorded one of the Bears' three game-winners in the second minute of the match. The senior captain tallied two assists, earning 10 points on the season. Young maintains a 3.34 GPA while majoring in biology

The Academic All-MAC honor is for those student-athletes who has excelled in on the field and in the classroom. To qualify, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative GPA and have participated in at least 50 percent of the contests for that particular sport.
