Missouri State women's soccer senior goalkeeper Jessica Teahan was named Prairie Farms/Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete of the Week on Wednesday the league office announced. The award comes one day after she earned MVC Defensive Player of the Week honors.
Teahan, who holds a 3.84 GPA in early childhood education, had a huge week for the Bears. Last Tuesday at Arkansas, she shut out the Razorbacks on the road, turning in six saves on the night to give the Bears their first road win over the Razorbacks.
The Lenexa, Kan. native topped that performance on Friday with a 110 minute shutout of Tulsa at Plaster Field. Teahan registered a career-high 12 saves in the match including a penalty kick save in the second overtime period.
She continued to shutdown opposing offenses when she turned aside four Oral Roberts shots on goal in Sunday's 2-0 win. In all, Teahan shut out opponents for 265 minutes this week making 22 saves.
To qualify for Prairie Farms/Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete of the Week laurels, student-athletes must carry a cumulative grade-point average of 3.20, completed at least one academic year at a Valley institution and must be at least a sophomore in academic standing. Redshirt freshmen and first-year junior college transfers are not eligible. In addition to the academic qualifications, student-athletes will be evaluated on their athletic performance for a one-week period.
The women's soccer team will wrap up its three-game home stand on Friday (Sept. 16) night. MSU will face UMKC at Plaster Field at 7:00 p.m.
