Lewis Posts Second Straight Shutout in Draw

SPRINGFIELD - Missouri State women's soccer (1-2-1) held the advantage in shots and possession Thursday afternoon but could not find a breakthrough, playing Southeast Missouri (1-1-1) to a 0-0 draw at Betty and Bobby Allison South Stadium.
The Bears finished with a 12-8 advantage in shots, placed five attempts on goal and controlled 58 percent of possession. Goalkeeper Kate Lewis made three saves to record her second consecutive shutout.
The home side was active from the opening whistle, producing four shots in the first 14 minutes. Maggie O'Keefe registered the first attempt on target in the eighth minute before Logan Morrow and Addy Rozycki each tested SEMO goalkeeper Natalie Allison later in the half.
A 6-3 advantage in shots and 3-2 edge in attempts on goal sent Mo State into halftime with the better of the attacking opportunities, but the match remained scoreless.
Lillie Rasmussen opened the second half with an attempt less than a minute after the restart, while Ariya Barton forced another save in the 50th minute.
The best chance of the afternoon came in the 67th minute. Brooke Cattoor stepped to the spot for a penalty kick, but the attempt did not find the net, preserving the scoreless tie.
O'Keefe generated two more chances over the next five minutes before Rozycki put an attempt on frame in the 77th. O'Keefe finished with a match-high three shots, while Rozycki placed both of her attempts on goal.
At the other end, Lewis and the back line kept the Redhawks from finding an opener. Lewis made two saves before halftime and added another in the 62nd minute, helping limit SEMO to three shots on goal and one corner kick over 90 minutes.
Lewis has now gone 180 consecutive minutes without allowing a goal after also recording a clean sheet in Sunday's 1-0 victory over Missouri.
Missouri State closes its three-match homestand Sunday, Aug. 30, against Central Arkansas at 1 p.m. at Betty and Bobby Allison South Stadium. The contest will serve as Senior Day and Maroon Out, with free admission for all fans.
