Rasmussen's Late Winner Seals Historic Win Over Missouri

SPRINGFIELD - Lillie Rasmussen scored in the 85th minute to lift Missouri State (1-2-0) to a 1-0 victory over Missouri (1-2-1) Sunday afternoon at Betty & Bobby Allison South Stadium, securing the program's first win over the Tigers in 30 years.
With the match scoreless at 84:42, Ellie Neath delivered a free kick from nearly 30 yards out into the Missouri penalty area. Maggie O'Keefe redirected the ball with a header toward Rasmussen, who finished the opportunity to put the Bears in front for good.
Missouri State came out aggressively from the opening whistle, pressing higher up the field and making it difficult for Missouri to settle into possession.
The Bears remained organized defensively throughout the opening half while continuing to apply pressure when opportunities arose. Missouri generated five first-half corner kicks, but the Tigers were held without a shot on goal as the teams went into halftime scoreless.
Missouri increased its attacking pressure early in the second half, including a stretch of four corner kicks in the opening six minutes. The Bears continued to withstand the pressure, with the back line holding strong to clear opportunities in front of goal.
Goalkeeper Kate Lewis made a key stop in the 67th minute to preserve the scoreless match before Missouri State began creating opportunities of its own. O'Keefe put an attempt on frame in the 73rd minute, forcing a save from the Missouri goalkeeper.
The breakthrough came just over 12 minutes later.
Neath earned the free kick that set up the eventual winner before taking the restart herself. O'Keefe redirected Neath's delivery toward Rasmussen, who converted for her first goal of the season. Neath and O'Keefe were both credited with assists on the play.
Missouri made one final push in the closing minutes, but Lewis turned away the Tigers' final shot on goal to preserve the 1-0 lead.
The Bears finished with five shots, placing three on target, while Missouri recorded nine attempts. Despite a 10-3 advantage in corner kicks, the Tigers put just two shots on goal as Lewis earned her first clean sheet of the season.
The victory snapped Missouri State's five-match losing streak against Missouri and marked its first win in the series since a 2-0 victory in Columbia on Sept. 19, 1996.
