The Missouri State women's golf team finished second of 19 teams Tuesday (Mar. 29) at the UALR Golf Classic in Hot Springs, Ark. The Bears shot a final-round 297 to go with 308-300 Monday and finish with a 905 team total, two shots behind first-place Oral Roberts, which carded 305-304-294--903.
MSU was led by junior Kelsey Welber, who tied for eighth place in the 99-player field after shooting 78-75-71--224 at the par 72, 6054-yard Diamante Country Club. Freshman Rikke Falsner was next for the Bears and 16th overall with 76-76-74--226, while junior Catherine Dolan was a stroke behind in 18th place with 80-71-76--227.
Junior Emily Potts tied for 34th after posting 75-81-76--232, but the highlight of her tournament was her first career hole-in-one on Monday. The junior from Springfield, Mo., aced the 142-yard 16th hole in the first round using a five-iron. Sophomore Emma Clegg carded 79-78-81--238 and finished in a tie for 64th. Medalist honors went to Florida International's Laura Stempfle, who went 74-72-73--219.
Following ORU and the Bears in the team race were third-place Arkansas State with 907, Eastern Michigan in fourth with 910 and Florida International in fifth with 911. Then came Middle Tennessee State (916), followed by Troy (917), UALR (920), UTEP (924), Wichita State (926), Lamar (929), Central Arkansas (930), Louisiana-Monroe, Western Michigan and Ball State (932), Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (935), Northern Iowa (955), UMKC (970) and Texas-Pan American (1002).
The Bears are idle next weekend, but return to action at the Baylor Invitational, Apr. 11-12.
