Men's Golf Finishes Seventh at First Tee Classic

The Missouri State men's golf team wrapped up the UALR/First Tee Classic with a seventh place finish in the 17 team field.

Juniors Jordan McLaurin and Will Hogan led the Bears. McLaurin was the more consistent golfer of the duo, with rounds of 73, 73 and 74 to finish at 220 (four over par) for a tie in seventh place. Hogan's second round of 69 was the Bears low-round of the meet. He finished with rounds of 74, 69 and 79 to finish 222 (six over par) and tie for eleventh.

Sophomore Daily Young (71-75-79-225, +9), senior Jack Courington (79-78-78-235, +19) and senior Matt Cermak (82-80-79-241, +25) rounded out the Bears scoring team. Young finished tied for 23rd, Courington tied for 68th and Cermak tied for 83rd.

The meet belonged to the Missouri Tigers, as Tiger golfer Jace Long was the individual champion with rounds of 71, 67 and 72 to finish 210 (six under par). Long led the Tigers to a 54-hole total of 882.

Next up for the Bears is their home meet, the Branson Creek Invitational. The meet will begin on Apr. 4 at 8:30 a.m. in Hollister, Mo. Two weeks later, Missouri State will host the 2011 MVC/State Farm Men's Golf Championship at the Club at Porta Cima in Sunrise Beach, Mo. The championship is scheduled for Apr. 25-26.
