The Missouri State men's golf team is tied for fourth after 36 holes at the D.A. Weibring Intercollegiate in Normal, Ill. The Bears shot 296-301--597 Saturday (Oct. 1) and enter the final round in a battle for second place after Illinois ran away from the field over the first two rounds.
The Illini fired 285-285--570 Saturday to take a 23-stroke lead over second-place Southern Illinois, which posted 302-291--593. Akron is third with 595, while the Bears are tied with Detroit Mercy. Host Illinois State is sixth at 605, followed by West Florida (606), Northern Iowa (607), Wisconsin (610), Northern Illinois (611), Western Illinois (614), SIU Edwardsville (617), Nebraska (621), Arkansas State (630) and Bradley (634).
Senior Will Hogan paced MSU, shooting 72-73--145 for a fifth-place tie. Junior Daily Young, who's won his first two tournaments of the season, is tied for 13th after recording 71-77--148. Sophomore Eric Straub shot 78-75--153 and is tied for 37th, while senior Jordan McLaurin and sophomore Nick Langley are tied for 44th with 154 totals. McLaurin shot 75-79, while Langley had 78-76. Illinois' Luke Guthrie has a six-shot lead in the medalist race after posting 67-68--135 in a pair of trips around the Weibring Golf Course.
Sunday's final round is scheduled for an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start.
