SPRINGFIELD -- Missouri State left-handed pitcher
Mike Kickham, a sixth round draft pick of the San Francisco Giants in June, has reached a contract agreement with the professional club. Kickham was a draft-eligible sophomore this season as a 21-year-old and spent his freshman year at Crowder College.
Kickham went 4-9 with a 5.25 ERA in his one season at Missouri State, striking out 103 batters in 96 innings to rank fifth and sixth, respectively, on the school’s single season record list. The Springfield native and Glendale High graduate will travel to the Giants’ training and development facility in Scottsdale, Ariz., Wednesday, before starting his pro career at a location to be determined later this week.
The remainder of the Bears’ 2010 weekend rotation signed in June.
Aaron Meade was a 10th round pick of the Los Angeles Angels and
Pat Doyle was chosen in Cincinnati in the 24th round. Both are pitching in the Rookie Pioneer League. Incoming freshman recruit Ryan Hafner (RHP, Lee’s Summit, Mo.) signed with Pittsburgh on Tuesday after being drafted in the 17th round.
Other MSU signees who have yet to sign as of 1 p.m. on Aug. 10 are Jordan Shipers (LHP, Bethany, Mo., 16th round, Seattle), Kyle Hardy (1B/3B, Miami, Fla., 31st round, San Francisco), Dan Kickham (RHP, Springfield, Mo., 37th round, Colorado) and Seth Conner (INF, Rogersville, Mo., 41st round, Toronto). Teams have until midnight on August 16 to reach contract agreements with drafted players.
