Two Bear Golfers Receive National Academic Recognition

Missouri State women's golfers Kelsey Welber and Heather Smith earned national acclaim for their performance in the classroom during the 2009-10 season with their selection to the National Golf Coaches Association's Division I All-American Scholar Team.

Criteria for selection as an All-American Scholar are some of the most stringent in collegiate athletics with a minimum 3.50 GPA and participation in at least 50 percent of the team's competitions required.

Welber, a sophomore from Plano, Texas, compiled a 3.90 GPA for the year while majoring in Entertainment Management.  On the course, she ranked third on the team and ninth in the Missouri Valley Conference with a 77.13 scoring average while posting four top-10 finishes.  Welber earned all-conference honors a year ago and posted her second straight Valley top-10 finish this past season.

Smith was a redshirt freshman from Fort Worth, Texas, but will not return to the Bears for 2010-11.  She posted a 3.88 GPA while majoring in Accounting.  She earned all-MVC honors on the course and was named the league's top newcomer while ranking 12th in the Valley with a 77.79 scoring mark.
