Former Missouri State golf standout Brian Bennett has qualified for the Nationwide Tour's stop in Springfield next month. A Springfield native who attended Parkview High and graduated from MSU in 2006, Bennett earned the spot by winning the PGA Midwest Section Stroke Play title July 12 in Bolivar, Mo. He shot 70-68--138, six-under-par at Silo Ridge Golf and Country Club, and took a playoff with Rob Wilkin of Lenexa, Kan., to earn the berth.
Bennett, who ranks in the top 10 in career scoring average at MSU, is the fourth ex-Bear to qualify for the event in recent years, following Matt Sullivan, Todd Laney and David Jenkins.
The Nationwide's Price Cutter Charity Championship will be held Aug. 12-15 at Highland Springs Country Club in Springfield.
