The Missouri State men's golf team slipped a couple of spots Tuesday (Apr. 13) to finish ninth of 18 teams at the Arkansas State Red Wolf Classic. The Bears, who were seventh heading into the day, posted 289-291-299--879 in three trips around RidgePointe Country Club in Jonesboro, Ark.
Middle Tennessee State shot a 282 on the final day and rallied to edge Central Arkansas and first-day leader Stephen F. Austin for the team title. MTSU shot 858 for the tournament, two better than UCA and three in front of SFA. Louisiana-Lafayette and Illinois State rounded out the top five at 864 and 867, respectively. Arkansas-Little Rock was sixth with 869, UMKC seventh at 871, Austin Peay eighth at 875 and then the Bears with 879 and Jacksonville State at 883 finished out the top 10.
Sophomore Will Hogan led the Bears for the fourth consecutive tournament, shooting a steady 71-73-72--216, even par, to finish tied for 17th. Senior Jay McBride, who was tied for seventh entering the final round, shot a 79 to go with 69-72 Monday and finished tied for 31st with a 220 total. Jack Courington carded 74-72-75--221 to tie for 40th, while Matt Cermak tied for 50th after posting 75-76-73--224. Mark Hogan and Scott Glenn, who played as an individual, tied for 71st after posting 228 totals. Hogan went 75-74-79 while Glenn had 75-77-76. Jason Millard of Middle Tennessee fired a final-round 66 to claim medalist honors with a seven-under-par 209 total.
The Bears are back in action Saturday and Sunday (Apr. 17-18) at the Hawkeye Invitational in Iowa City, Iowa.
