Weems Earns Missouri Valley Player of the Week Distinction

ST. LOUIS -- The Missouri Valley Conference announced Monday (Dec. 20) that Missouri State University junior Kyle Weems (F, Topeka, Kan.) has been named as the league's Player of the Week.

In Saturday's 81-65 non-conference win over Saint Louis, Weems became the first Missouri State player since 2005 (Blake Ahearn)  to score 20 points in three consecutive games. Weems' game-high 26 points in the contest paced the Bears to their 9th win in 11 tries against the Billikens and helped push the Bears to their 18th straight non-conference home win.

He also snagged a game-high 8 rebounds in the SLU contest, was 10-for-14 from the field and knocked down 3 three-pointers for the third game in a row.

Weems, a Preseason All-MVC player, also earned the MVC's weekly outstanding player award on Nov. 23, 2009.  His honor is just the third MVC Player of the Week awarded to a Bear under Head Coach Cuonzo Martin, along with Chris Cooks on Jan. 19, 2009.

Missouri State has received 30 MVC Players of the Week since joining the league in 1990.

The Bears (7-3) host Arkansas State on Wednesday at JQH Arena, starting at 7:05 p.m. Tickets are available by calling (417) 836-7678 or on-line at www.MissouriStateTix.com.
