ST LOUIS - Two Missouri State cross country harriers were honored by the Missouri Valley Conference today. Junior Terry Phillips and sophomore Emily Beaver were named MVC Scholar-Athletes by the league office. This is Phillips' second time receiving the distinction, it is Beaver's first. Only four non-seniors were named Scholar-Athletes.
Scholar-Athlete honors require athletes to meet performance standards, as the top-10 finishers at the conference championship earn all-conference honors and are included on the Scholar-Athlete team, provided they meet the set criteria, while other athletes must finish among the first 20 runners at the conference championship and hold a cumulative 3.2 GPA and be a sophomore in athletic and academic standing to earn a spot on the MVC Scholar-Athlete team.
The Bears will return to action for the 2010 NCAA Midwest Regional, hosted by Bradley University on Nov. 13. Last season, Phillips placed 18th in the race and earned all-Midwest Region honors.
