The Missouri State cross country team will travel to Peoria, Ill. on Saturday to compete in the 2010 NCAA Midwest Regional. This year's regional will be hosted by Bradley University, the site of the 2009 MVC championships.
In last year's regional, junior Terry Phillips placed 18th in the 6K, earning her all-Midwest Region accolades. Additionally, the last time Phillips ran at Bradley University, she was named the MVC individual champion.
This season, the Bears bring the talented trio of Phillips, sophomore Emily Beaver and newcomer Leah Nichols to the meet, and look to improve upon their 12th-place team finish a year ago.
Nichols was the top finisher for the Bears at the MVC Championship, placing third overall. However, she has yet to run a 6K race in her collegiate career. Phillips and Beaver are both in the all-time top-20 for Missouri State in the 6K distance. Phillips' career best time of 21:24.60 is fourth-best in Missouri State history. Beaver's 22:19.07 is the 20th time in school history.
The race is scheduled to begin at 11:00 a.m.
