Junior Will Hogan captured medalist honors and the Missouri State men's golf team claimed the team title Tuesday (Oct. 26) at the Doubletree Intercollegiate in suburban St. Louis. Hogan carded 74-70-71--215, one under par, to cruise to a five-shot victory while the Bears ran away from the eight-team field, winning by 16 strokes.
MSU shot 304-292-301--897 in three rounds at Sunset Hills Country Club, with Southern Illinois at Carbondale its closest challenger at 290-312-311--913. Host Southern Illinois at Edwardsville was third with 923, followed by Tennessee State (925), North Dakota (929), Eastern Illinois (932), South Dakota (966) and Chicago State (1010).
Hogan's win, the first of his collegiate career, was just one of three top-10 finishes for the Bears. Junior Jordan McLaurin tied for sixth after posting 75-75-75--225, while freshman Nick Langley had his best collegiate outing by tying for ninth with 75-74-77--226. Senior Jack Courington tied for 18th by shooting 80-76-78--234 and sophomore Daily Young tied for 21st at 83-73-79--235. Freshman Eric Straub competed as an individual and placed 42nd after carding 80-87-81--248.
The tournament concludes the Bears' fall season. They'll start up in the spring at the Rice Intercollegiate, Feb. 21-22.
