TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- Missouri State's offense posted its second-highest hitting percentage of the season with a .366 figure Saturday at Indiana State on the way to a 25-21, 25-16, 25-19 volleyball victory over the Sycamores.
The Bears improved to 17-5 overall and 8-3 in the Missouri Valley Conference with the win, while ISU dropped to 9-15 and 1-10 in the league.
Five of the six Bears to register at least six attacks hit .368 or better, led by Shayla Patrick's nine kills on 12 swings to hit .750. Calli Norman led the Bears with 11 kills on .375 hitting and freshman Christine McCartney added 10 kills and hit .368.
The first set swung on Missouri State's 5-1 run that gave the Bears an 18-14 lead after a 13-all tie. The Sycamores pulled within two points twice in the late stages but never got closer thanks to Patrick and Norman combining for eight kills and no errors.
Missouri State's best offensive set came with a .467 attack efficiency in the second, paced by Patrick, McCartney and Kelley Michnowicz all posting identical stat lines of four kills, five attacks and no errors. The Bears bolted to a 7-1 lead and led by as many as 11 points at 19-8.
The Bears used a 7-0 run in the third to lead 15-8 and Indiana State never challenged from there. Norman had six kills in the set and the Bears hit .387 as a team.
The MSU defense held the Sycamores to .176 hitting and finished the match with seven blocks. Cara Hackmann led all players with 13 digs.
Missouri State returns to action Oct. 29 with a 7 p.m. match at Wichita State.
