Sophomore Terry Phillips (Kansas City, Mo.) has been named the cross country athlete of the week by the Missouri Valley Conference. Phillips ran in the Missouri State Classic on September 19, 2009. She finished fifth among all runners with her time of 17:36.00. This year's time is a 48.7 second improvement upon last year's mark.
Though only a sophomore, Phillips is already one of the top runners for Missouri State. In her one season of competition, Phillips earned All-MVC and All-Midwest Region honors as a freshman. She capped off her impressive year with a 21st place finish in the 2008 NCAA Midwest Regional. Phillips' time in the Classic, her first meet of the season, is eighth best all-time at Missouri State.
The Bears will compete again on Saturday, October 3 in Chicago, Ill., where they will run in the Sean Earl Lakefront Invitational, hosted by Loyola University. The 5K race will begin at 11:00 a.m.
