Missouri State women's golf coach Kevin Kane has received commitments from two more prep standouts for the 2009-10 season. The latest additions to the Bears' program are Emma Clegg of Blackburn, Lancashire, England, and Amy Bowen of Benton, Ark. The two join fall signee Hermine Greyling of West Cape, South Africa, to complete the team's recruiting class for next year.
Clegg is a three-time Lancashire Schools Champion and placed third at the Lancashire Girls' Championship a year ago. She won the Northeast Region of the Faldo Junior Series and went on finish third in the Scotland and Northeast England final. Clegg also reached the quarterfinals of the Lancashire Ladies Championship and advanced to the championship flight of the 2008 English Girls' Championship.
Bowen was a four-time all-state performer in Arkansas, placing in the top 10 all four years at the Class 6-A state tournament, including second as a sophomore and fourth as a junior. She led her Benton High School team to the state title as a senior after three straight runner-up finishes and was ranked ninth in the final 2008 Arkansas State Golf Association Player of the Year Standings.
"I'm excited to round out our 2009-10 recruiting class with players the caliber of Emma and Amy," said Kane. "Emma's coming from halfway around the world and Amy just a few hours away, but they've both had success at the junior level and I expect they'll be major contributors to our program right from the start. Adding them to our team, along with Hermine (Greyling) and our strong group of returners, will give us the deepest team we've ever had in terms of quality depth. We'lll have some tremendous battles for playing time next season."
The Bears, who finished fifth at last month's State Farm Missouri Valley Conference Championship, will open the fall season at the Worldlink North Texas Classic, Sept. 14-15.
