McBride Leads Bears in Jim Colbert Intercollegiate at Kansas State

Junior Jay McBride shot a final-round 74 Tuesday (Sept. 23) and led the Missouri State men's golf team with a 15th-place finish at the Jim Colbert Intercollegiate in Manhattan, Kan. As a team, the Bears stumbled to a final-round 326 and dropped to eighth in the team standings.

McBride posted 78-76-74--228 in three trips around the par-72, 7525-yard Colbert Hills layout. The Bears entered the day in fourth place after shooting 306-313 on Monday, but slipped four spots Tuesday for a 945 total. Host Kansas State won the team title after firing 294-299-290--883, well ahead of runner-up UMKC, which shot 308-294-298--900. Western Illinois finished third with 910, followed by Wichita State at 914, Oral Roberts with 930 and Miami (Ohio) at 935. Florida Gulf Coast was seventh (940), followed by the Bears and Army (961). Mitchell Gregson of Kansas State won medalist honors after carding 74-74-68--216, edging Dustin Garza of Wichita State by a stroke.

Sophomore Jack Courington was second for MSU and tied for 30th overall with 73-81-81--235. Junior Ryan Weinhaus and freshman Jordan McLaurin finished 48th and 49th, respectively. Weinhaus shot 76-77-91--244, while McLaurin posted 79-79-87--245. Sophomore Matt Cermak carded 95-81-84--260 to place 56th.

The Bears are back in action Monday and Tuesday (Sept. 29-30) at the ORU Shootout in Tulsa, Okla.
