The U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association released its first regional rankings of the season today. The Missouri State women’s team is ranked 10th in the Midwest Region, ahead of other Missouri Valley Conference schools Wichita State at 11th and Illinois State at 15th.
The rankings were top heavy with Big Ten schools Minnesota (1), Illinois (2) and Iowa (4). Big 12 schools Nebraska (3), Oklahoma State (6), Kansas State (7), Iowa State (8) and Missouri (9) ranked just ahead of the Bears. Tulsa, ranked 5th, was the other school ranked in the Top 10.
There are nine NCAA regional championships held nationally for Division-I schools. The Midwest Region includes all schools from the states of Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, Oklahoma and South Dakota. In all 33 Division-I teams are represented in the Midwest Region. The Midwest region includes schools from 10 conferences including the Atlantic10, Big 12, Big East, Big Ten, Conference-USA, Horizon League, MAC, Missouri Valley, Ohio Valley, and Summit League with one member being a DI Independent.
Missouri State is in action next this Saturday, September 20, as they host the Missouri State Classic. Oklahoma State (6) and Wichita State (11) will also compete in the Missouri State Classic.
