The Missouri State men's golf team placed 10th on Tuesday (Mar. 4) at the Braveheart Classic in Beaumont, Calif. The Bears shot 323-314-304--941 in their second tournament of the spring, hosted by UC Riverside at the Oak Valley Country Club.
Cal Poly came from behind to capture the team title with a 54-hole total of 900, eight better than runnerup UC Riverside and 10 ahead of UC Santa Barbara. The rest of the 16-team field stacked up as follows: TCU (912), Kansas State (918), Cal State Northridge (924), Sacramento State (926), Gonzaga (927), Southern Utah (930), the Bears, Portland State and Texas-Pan American (942), Utah State (944), Barry and Weber State (946), and Loyola (969).
Medalist honors were shared by Nick Paez and Spencer Paschall of the host Highlanders, who each shot four-over-par 220. Sophomore Jay McBride led the Bears, shooting 81-76-76--233 to tie for 27th. Freshman Jack Courington tied for 41st after posting 80-81-74--235, while senior Damaso Carrera tied for 47th with 83-76-77--236. Sophomore Scott Glenn was fourth for MSU and 62nd overall after shooting 81-81-77--239, and senior John Cronly shot 81-81-83--245 to tie for 83rd.
The Bears are idle next week and return to action Mar. 17-18 at the First Tee Intercollegiate in Little Rock, Ark.
