The Missouri State baseball team dropped back-to-back games for the first time this season with an 11-7 loss to Kansas Wednesday afternoon at Hammons Field.
The Bears fell to 8-4 on the season, while KU upped its record to 10-5.
The Jayhawks scored a single run in the second and tacked on three more in the third, the big blow coming from Erik Morrison’s double off the wall in center to give KU a 4-0 advantage.
Ben Woodbury broke up Shaeffer Hall’s no-hitter with a leadoff triple in the bottom of the fourth, and Brayden Drake ended the shutout bid with a two-run homer into the bullpen one batter later. Ryan Mantle singled with two outs, Josh Mazzola reached on an error and Dallas Hord handed MSU the 5-4 lead with a three-run home run to center.
MSU reliever Sean Toler tossed three hitless innings before running into trouble in the seventh when KU loaded the bases with no outs. Ryne Price gave the lead back to the Jayhawks with a two-run single, Erik Morrison hit an RBI single and Pat Doyle fired a wild pitch to let Price score. KU pushed one more run across to regain the lead at 9-5 with a five-run seventh.
Nolan Keane drove in Mazzola with a single in the seventh, but Price smashed a two-run homer in the eighth to make the score 11-6. Ben Carlson blasted his fifth round-tripper of the season in the eighth and the Bears stranded runners on second and third in a scoreless ninth for the 11-7 final.
Missouri State opens a three-game home set with Northern Colorado Friday at 3 p.m.
