The Missouri State University women’s golf team was eighth and the men’s team tied for 10th after Sunday’s first day of the season-opening Cuthbert Cup Tournament at Kiawah Island Golf Club in South Carolina. The 54-hole event for the 13-team fields for both men and women will continue through Tuesday.   
The Missouri State women had a first day score of 304, 17 strokes off the team pace set by tourney host College of Charleston at 287. Jillian Anthony led the day for Missouri State’s team with a round of 74, tying her for 14th place individually.   
On the men’s side, Missouri State’s 307 put the Bears 15 shots off the team pace. Western Carolina, Washington State and Richmond share the lead at 292 with seven schools within five shots of the lead after the first day. Jack Courington led the Bears with a 70 for the day, tying him for third in individual competition.
