Missouri State Women's Soccer Squad Advances to MVC Semifinals

The Missouri State women’s soccer team will advance to the semifinal round of the State Farm Missouri Valley Conference Tournament after a 4-2 PK victory over Creighton University late Wednesday night in Omaha, Neb.

After 110 scoreless minutes, the Bears edged the Bluejays in the shootout, earning the win and moving on the next round in the league’s tourney. Missouri State will take on the number one seed Evansville on Friday, Nov. 7 at 5:00 p.m.

Sophomore defender Jordan Reppell fired the first shot of the shootout but her shot was rejected by Creighton’s keeper Kristen Casey. The Jays all-time leading scorer, Marcy Gans would take the first shot for Creighton. Gans sent a shot that was saved by Missouri State’s goalie Jackie Jasper, keeping the match scoreless.

The next four players to fire shots alternated scores. Creighton’s Lindsay Vaught and Shawn Magrum each found the back of the net for the Bluejays. Missouri State seniors Jenna Dobkins and Jenna Laughlin scored for the Bears.

Senior midfielder Allison Osmundson netted her shot in the fourth round to give the Bears a 3-2 lead over CU. Emily Orbell’s attempt to tie the shootout for Creighton bounced off the post and went wide, leaving Missouri State with a one goal lead.

Missouri State’s top goal scorer this season, Samantha Aguilar would seal the match for the Bears as she sent her shot into the back of the nest past CU’s goalie Casey.

The Bears recorded a season high 19 shots in the contest as the Bluejays tabbed 17. Goalkeeper Jasper tallied nine saves, earning the win and her seventh shutout on the season.

The Bears offense was led by Osmundson who posted five shots with one on goal. Aguilar and Caroline Sweeney each posted four shots in the match.

Notes: The match endured a 1-hour, 12-minute lighting delay. Indiana State became the lowest seed to advance since 2005 after the No. 6-seeded Sycamores upset No. 3 Drake, 1-0 in double overtime.
