Bears Head to Stillwater for NCAA Midwest Regional Championships

The Missouri State cross country team will travel to Stillwater, Okla., on Saturday to participate in the NCAA Midwest Regional Championships (6K).  It will be the second trip to Stillwater this season for the Bears.  Saturday’s meet begins at 11:00 a.m.

The Bears enter the regional championships having finished second in the MVC Championship on November 1.  Pasca Cheruiyot leads the Bears into Stillwater with three school records under her belt already this season.  Cheruiyot finished third in the Bears first trip to Stillwater this season, trailing the leader by only four seconds.

Senior Jamie Vest, who finished fourth at the MVC Championships, looks to advance to the NCAA National Championship meet, in lieu of ending her Missouri State career.  Vest finished 21st in Stillwater on October 4.

Terry Phillips finished one second behind Vest at Stillwater earlier this season.  Phillips finished seventh at the MVC Championship and looks to give the Bears a strong push at regionals.

The Bears come into the regional championships ranked ninth in the Midwest region.  Missouri State can get an automatic bid to the NCAA National Championships at Terre Haute, Ind., if they are one of the top two teams to finish Saturday.  The Bears could send an individual to the NCAA National Championships, if they are one of the top four individuals outside of the top-two teams.  Other at-large bids to the NCAA Championships will be announced on Monday.
