Seth Reichert (Sr., OG)
“We haven’t rushed it as much as we wanted to this season. It’s always fun to have everyone healthy and be able to do that.”
“The defense played their hearts out. They stepped up big today. It fired the rest of the team up.”
On going for it on fourth and goal early in the game
“I knew we were going for it. It was key. It got everyone pumped up.”
Stephen Johnston (So., TB)
On returning to action after his injury
“It felt pretty good. It was hard to watch the team when I couldn’t help. I have faith in all the backs when I wasn’t able to play.
Kingjack Washington (So., TB)
On narrowly missing a touchdown early in the game
“I wasn’t mad. I was mad earlier when I thought I scored and when I fumbled. The line opened big holes all game for both of us (he and Johnston).”
On Stephen Johnston’s big day
“Some think because Stephen is a big back that he’s slow and doesn’t have speed. He showed he does have speed today.”
On the MSU defense
“They came out with intensity. When we saw that, we had to match them.”
Roger Wright (Sr., S)
“We emphasized all week to play with more emotion. I had more fun and just played my game.”
“All week we worked on stopping the run. It was the plan to make them pass.”
Head Coach Terry Allen
“It was a good day for the Bears and a sad day with the loss of (Robert Plaster). He would have been proud of his Bears today.”
On the change at punt returner
“We put Marco (Finley) back there this week, and he got a 40 yard return for us and almost a touchdown. We wanted to take a little pressure off Chase Mejia who is a true freshman and has seen a lot of action this season.”
On MSU’s running game
“It’s a little easier to protect the quarterback when you can run a little bit and take the pressure off of Cody (Kirby). People think we want to pass it every down, but I’d love to be in a football game where we didn’t have to throw the ball at all. I was glad to see us match the level of physical play that Youngstown is known for. Kingjack had a great day, but Stephen Johnston was a nice difference to have real physical back to change up the pace.”
On beating a program like Youngstown State
“This game really helped to teach our kids to finish games strong. We’re just like everybody else with one loss in the conference now. Our biggest goal is to climb the ladder in the MVFC. It’s always a great day when you can say you beat the Penguins, especially on Homecoming.”
