Missouri State sophomore Jay McBride fired 73-70--143 and sits in second place after the first day of the season-opening Missouri Intercollegiate men's golf tournament in Sunrise Beach, Mo. McBride led the Bears to third place after the first day with team scores of 299-295--594, a stroke behind second-place Central Missouri, but 14 behind front-runner UMKC, which posted 580.
Missouri Baptist is fourth in the 18-team field at 598 with Drury fifth at 601. In the medalist race, UMKC's Neil Horsley went 73-67--140 to take a three-stroke lead over McBride into Wednesday's final round at The Club at Porto Cima. Sophomore Ryan Weinhaus is second for the Bears and tied for 10th overall after posting 75-73--148 while sophomore Scott Glenn is tied for 20th with 74-77--151. Senior Damaso Carrera is tied for 38th after shooting 82-75--157 and freshman Jack Courington is tied for 45th at 77-81--158.
