Missouri State senior Missy Linnens has been named Missouri Valley Conference Golfer of the Week after a record-setting performance Monday and Tuesday (Sept. 17-18) in Louisville, Ky. Linnens fired a school-record 54-hole score of 72-72-73--217 to finish third at the Napa River Grill Cardinal Cup at The Cardinal Club, a par 72, 6187-yard layout.
The Wichita, Kan., native and team captain also was the co-owner of the previous MSU mark of 218, which she set last October along with teammate Lyndsey Adams at the Shootout at the Legends in Franklin, Ind. She is a two-time all-conference performer and was tri-medalist at the 2006 MVC Championship. She ranked third in the Valley in scoring average a year ago and currently ranks second in the league with a 74.2 scoring average in the first six rounds of the season. This week's honor marks the fourth time in her career Linnens has won the league's weekly award.
The Bears finished 13th at the tournament and are now idle until they defend their championship at the Oral Roberts Shootout, Oct. 1-2.
