The Missouri State field hockey team defeated Robert Morris Sunday afternoon 1-0 at Plaster Field. The Bears improve to 1-7 on the season while the Colonials fall to 2-5.
Junior midfielder Amanda Miyashita scored at 22:10 off of a pass from freshman Jennifer Portell for her third goal of the season. Junior Sandy Fulkerson also picked up her fourth defensive save for the Bears.
Robert Morris played the Bears aggressively the entire game, which resulted in a penalty stroke for the Bears. Senior Melissa Millin could not get the ball past Robert Morris senior goalkeeper Kate Dunlap.
The Bears outshot the Colonials 14-9 and received more penalty corners 12-5. Missouri State got both goalkeepers into the game against Robert Morris. Senior Kim Kinsella added three more saves to her season total of 79, while junior Jessica Schuster added two more saves in the second half.
Missouri State is back on the road Sept. 22 to face Indiana University and Sept. 23 to take on Ohio State University. Both games will be in Columbus, Ohio.
