Freshman Jay McBride and senior Matt Sullivan paced Missouri State on the first day of the ASU Indian Classic men's golf tournament Monday (Apr. 9) in Jonesboro, Ark. McBride fired 69-72--141 and Sullivan added 71-71--142 to lead the Bears, who are tied with Illinois State for eighth place after shooting 289-288--577.
New Orleans took the 36-hole lead after posting 286-278--564, two better than second-place South Florida's 566. Troy is third at 571, followed by Jacksonville State (572), Louisiana-Lafayette and Louisiana Tech (574), and seventh-place Southern Mississippi (575). UNO's Jose Toledo holds the individual lead after carding 68-67--135 in two trips around the Sage Meadows Golf Club.
For MSU, freshman Matt Cermak is tied for 48th overall after shooting 76-71--147, while junior Damaso Carrera is tied for 56th at 73-77--150. Freshman Scott Glenn was fifth for the Bears and 69th overall after a 78-74--152.
The tournament concludes Tuesday with the final 18 holes beginning at 8:00 a.m.
