Strong finish for men's golf at ASU

The Missouri State men's golf team moved up two spots in Tuesday's (Apr. 10) final round to finish sixth at the ASU Indian Classic in Jonesboro, Ark.  The Bears capped off the tournament with 288 to go with Monday's 289-288 for a 54-hole total of 865 to edge seventh-place Illinois State and Jacksonville State.  South Florida rallied past first-day leader New Orleans to claim the team title, 852 to 854.  Louisiana-Lafayette (857), Troy (862) and Louisiana Tech (864) also finished ahead of MSU in the 16-team field.

Bear senior Matt Sullivan, a Jonesboro native, finished with a 73 for a three-round score of 215, one-under par, good for a tie for 15th place.  Freshman Jay McBride was 24th after shooting 69-72-75--216 while freshman Matt Cermak enjoyed his best collegiate outing, carding 76-71-71--218 and tying for 33rd.  Freshman Scott Glenn and junior Damaso Carrera tied for 54th at 223.  Erik Barnes of Austin Peay State won medalist honors with 68-68-70--206.

The Bears are idle next week before heading to the State Farm Missouri Valley Conference Championship, Apr. 23-24 in Kansas City, Mo.
