BEARS? NATHAN STOKES REPEATS GATEWAY HONORS

Missouri State senior punter/placekicker Nathan Stokes has collected Gateway Football Conference Special Teams Player of the Week honors for his performance in last Saturday’s Bears’ win over Indiana State. It’s the second time this season Stokes has received the league honor.

Stokes was perfect on all nine of his extra-point tries vs. ISU to tie a school record for most PATs kicked in a game. He had previously booted eight PATs in the season-opening win over Missouri-Rolla. He attempted no field goals in Missouri State’s 63-7 win over ISU last week, but punted twice for a 58-yard average. His first punt of the day Saturday was a 70-yarder, the sixth longest in Bears’ grid history. Stokes had a 75-yarder a week earlier at Southern Illinois. He has now hit 42-of-44 PATs this season and has seven field goals in nine tries for 63 points in nine games. Stokes has a 41.2-yard punting average.

Stokes had a record-tying 15 points on three field goals and six extra points at Tennessee-Martin Sept. 6 to win the award for the first time this season.
