The Missouri State field hockey team defeated Ball State 2-1 in Mid-American Conference action Sunday afternoon at Plaster Field to close out the 2007 regular season. The Bears move to 2-18 for the season, 1-9 in Mid-American Conference play. Ball State falls to 5-12 overall and 3-7 in the MAC.
On Senior Day for the team, senior Melissa Millin scored her fourth goal of the season for the Bears at 32:33, rocketing a shot past Ball State goalkeeper Tiffany Shifflett off a pass by junior Sarah Johnson. Sophomore Melissa Lantz scored the Bears' second goal of the game at 46:12, unassisted.
Ball State got within one when Lauren Cruz put the ball through with 11 seconds left in the game. Ball State outshot the Bears 21-8 and earned more penalty corners, 12-4.
Missouri State's senior goalkeeper Kim Kinsella allowed only one goal with 16 saves, increasing her season total 224 saves in the 2007 regular season, with a .792 save percentage.
The Bears will go to Oxford, Ohio, for the Mid-American Conference tournament Nov. 1-3. The bracket will be announced Monday.
