The Missouri State field hockey team lost to Mid-American Conference foe Central Michigan 3-1 Saturday afternoon in Mount Pleasant, Mich. The loss drops the Bears to 1-14 on the season, 0-5 in the MAC. The win pushes the Chippewas to 4-8, 3-2 in conference play.
After the teams went scoreless in the first half, Central Michigan scored right after the second half started off a deflection by Samantha Sandham with the assists going to Allyce Avery and Lizl Gericke. Freshman Megan Shamleffer netted her first career goal for the Bears with an assist from senior Melissa Millin at 42:76.
Central Michigan scored exactly a minute later to take the lead on a goal scored by Pam Seufert, assisted by Gericke. The Chippewas scored again with two minutes left in the game by Avery with help from Sandham.
Goalkeeper Kim Kinsella allowed three goals and collected 13 saves to push her season total to 163. Missouri State was outshot 28-3 and did not earn any corners to CMU's 17.
The Bears will play Sunday, Oct. 14, at Central Michigan at noon.
