The Missouri State women's soccer team lost its first game of the season against Oklahoma State in Stillwater, Okla., Sunday afternoon, 2-1. With the loss, the Bears even out their record at 1-1 and the Cowgirls improve to 2-0.
After a scoreless first half, MSU senior Chelsea Anderson scored the lone goal for the Bears as she found the net after a misplay by the Cowgirls' goalkeeper seven minutes into the second half, putting Missouri State on top 1-0. It wasn't long before OSU's Yolanda Odenyo answered back, finding the back of the net off a free kick to even the score. A short four minutes later, Odenya was able to put another one past Bears' goalkeeper Jackie Jasper, as she took a corner kick from Siera Strawser to notch the game-winning goal.
With 17:43 remaining in the contest, a thunderstorm moved through delaying the game for 50 minutes. When the teams resumed play, the Bears applied pressure but could not create a scoring opportunity.
Oklahoma State outshot Missouri State 10-0 in the first half and 9-4 in the second. Freshman Samantha Aguilar and Anderson posted one shot for the Bears and sophomore Caroline Sweeney had two.
Missouri State's Jasper (1-1) recorded five saves on the night as she took the loss, and OSU's Jeanne Rankin (2-0) earned the win.
The Bears will be back in action Tuesday, Aug. 29, when they travel to St. Louis, Mo., to challenge the SLU Billikins at 7 p.m.
