Missouri State’s volleyball team ran into a red hot Oral Roberts squad Tuesday evening, getting swept by the Golden Eagles by scores of 30-27, 30-18 and 30-20 at the Aerobics Center in Tulsa, Okla.
The Bears fell to 11-4 with the loss, while ORU improved to 14-6.
Game one would be the closest of the match, with the Golden Eagles capturing a 30-27 win. ORU climbed ahead 14-6 before the Bears pulled it to 22-21 but could get no closer. Oral Roberts hit .234, its lowest game total for the match, to .106 for the Bears.
The Golden Eagles played near-perfect volleyball in game two to take a 2-0 match lead into intermission. ORU did not have an attack error in the period, putting away 18 kills on 35 swings. Shanda Harper had five kills without an error in game two, and finished the match with a career-best 14 kills on .522 hitting. She was the only Bear to reach double figures in kills.
ORU continued to be on fire in game three, hitting .343 to MSU’s .065 in the finale. The Golden Eagles hit .350 for the match compared to .109 for Missouri State, and Jackie Olivera had 12 kills on 15 swings with no errors for ORU.
Missouri State finished the match with six blocks compared to 15 for ORU, and was held without a service ace for the first time in 43 matches.
Senior Adeana McAfee had 17 digs for the Bears, passing Susan Ruch for the MSU career lead in digs per game with her effort.
The Bears stay on the road this weekend for MVC matches at Southern Illinois (8-8, 3-3 MVC) on Friday and Evansville (10-7, 4-2 MVC) on Saturday. First serve for both matches is set for 7 p.m.
